Assertiveness

Assertiveness is the skill of saying what you think, how you feel and what you want.

  • Assertive statements usually begin with” I am..”, “I want…”, “I feel…”)
  • This can start a positive conversation so you understand each other.
  • Aggressive statement usually start with: “You are…”, “You should…”.
  • This can start arguments where you blame each other.

How often do you  honestly tell others what you want, think or feel?

Music can remind us or motivate us to use any of the Satisfaction Skills. For example, if you have difficulty being assertive, how about if you used “Brave” (see video below) as a new soundtrack for your life?

Assertiveness (and the same song) can also give you strength if you’re being bullied or abused.
